Event Work

Working in PR and all those events!!

So far in my career in PR I have work on and been involved in a range of events including:
  • Burgess Wetnose Awards 2012
  • Burgess Premier Small Animal Show – Rabbit Grand National 2012
  • Leeds Hotel & Venue Awards 2011
  • Y10 (Welcome to Yorkshire’s Annual Show) 2010
  • Manchester Pride 2009
  • Annual Labour Party Conference 2008
  • Manchester Tourism Awards 2009
  • International Indian Film Awards, 2008 – IIFA in Bangkok, Thailand
During my time at Marketing Manchester I have been involved in many events from corporate to social networking events and Manchester Pride charity events. From the very start of my placement in September I made it clear to the in-house events team that I am interested in getting involved as much as I possibly could. In September I was involved in working the Manchester tourism stand at the Annual Labour Party Conference 2008. This involved gaining a security press pass to enable access to the site. While working the event I was involved in promoting Manchester as a destination to visitors that came for the event. My team had previously organised a press event at The Radisson Edwardian Hotel for one of the evenings, therefore I was in charge of giving out invitation to local and national press that I spoke to while at the event.

The press and pr team at Marketing Manchester are in charge of organising PR Networking events every quarter in order to meet with key contacts within the same industry. This is a great way for everyone to keep up-to-date on developments and any issues that may have occurred. Each event we choose a main focus topic, i.e. Media City in Salford Quays or Manchester Economic Review, to highlight the event. As we deal with the planning of the event, we are in charge of booking a venue and ordering and budgeting for food/nibbles and drinks.

Manchester Tourism Awards 2009 takes places every year to showcase the best in the industry. The event is organised by Marketing Manchester’s events team, and on the night I was involved in helping out with the press and media. Channel M came along to film and interview the winners and I was in charge of organising this and making sure that it was carried out efficiently.

Below is also the text I helped to write for All About Manchester magazine, which is a publication (print run of 15,000) which is distributed around the cities hotels and restaurants and includes visitor information.
